Fleas
Flea infestations can cause destruction around your home. Here are some facts you should know about this pest.
At Maitland Pest Exterminators we believe that a successful flea treatment should work immediately. That’s why our team provides a warranty after the FIRST (and LAST) Flea Treatment.
Flea Infestations must be treated immediately. Flea infestations can increase astronomically due to their ability to lay eggs at a rate of 40 to 50 per day.
HARM LEVEL
Since fleas cling to a variety of different hosts, meaning diseases can be easily be transferred from one host to another. Fleas can transmit tapeworm larvae and, uncommonly, the disease murine typhus. They are infamous for transmitting the bubonic plague from wild rodents to humans in certain parts of the world (not Australia).
The three main types of fleas in Australia are:
- cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis)
- dog flea (Ctenocephalides canis)
- human flea (Pulex irritans).
The cat and dog flea are frequently found in Australia. A flea bite is intensely itchy and consequent infections can be caused by scratching.
Wondering what fleas are exactly? Adult fleas grow to about 3 millimetres long and can be brown or black in colour. They have bodies that are “flattened” sideways or narrow so they’re able to move through your host’s fur or feathers with ease! The primary goal for these pesky insects is to reproduce and find blood.
FLEA PEST CONTROL SOLUTIONS.
Adult fleas can stay dormant inside pupae or cocoons in your property for weeks to months. When the conditions are perfect, will they arise as young and hungry adults. Fleas in pupae or cocoons are highly resistant to most treatments which is where Maitland Pest Exterminators comes into the picture.
